Family Needed to Adopt Muslim Boy and Girl Toddlers

I received a disturbing phone call last friday from a mother who said, "Can you help me find a Muslim family to adopt my 2 kids?" It was a rather chilling conversation with this mother who had been told that she would be losing custody of both her children in September. She was frantic and wanted to make sure they would be raised Muslim. She understands that her legal rights will be terminated as a parent but wants to ensure the safety and religion of her two young children-a 3 year old boy and 2 year old girl. This has to be the hardest thing a mother has to go through. May Allah keep her strong and give her patience.

I assured the mother that I would try my best to help find a Muslim family willing to adopt both of her children. The obstacle is that the family must be already licensed as a resource parent in order to qualify.

The hearing is in mid-September and we need to be able to provide the state with a licensed Muslim family or a family that has completed or is in the process of completing the homestudy evaluation.

It is imperative that we act now and step up. There have been many cases like this that we lost due to our slow response as a community and many more similar cases will arise in the future.

You can help today by signing up to become a resource parent and joining our database so we have something to present to the state when a child is taken into custody.

You can call 1-877-NJFOSTER to begin the process or email me directly at lalbana@gmail.com

  1. I'm assuming the kids are in New Jersey? Must the foster family be in New Jersey too?

  3. Yes the children are in New Jersey. Typically the children must be placed in a home within the county they live in. However, in the event of adoption, if there is a licensed family out of state, some exceptions may be made.

  6. I think they should post a flyer in the masajids in the last two days of Ramadan, as people visit mosques more in Ramadan. May be someone might be able to help!

  8. The details of the case are confidential. Our main priority is the safety of the children and the protection of their religious rights according to the wishes of their parents and the pending NJ state law that guarantees the placement of minors in homes where they can practice their religion freely, preferrably in homes where their religion is practiced.

  9. Assalamu alaikum,
I'm living in MA n just called DCF in NJ to let them know that I'm interested in being the foster parent. While the lady said someone will be in touch within the next few days, she did caution that the whole process may take 6mths or more as we haven't even started the process...plus the fact that foster care must be in-state...she wouldn't confirm this brother-sister case either...please feel free to contact me at nbkhalil@gmail.com so we can work together on this. JAK.

  10. JAK for your attempts. DYFS is not authorized to give out confidential information on any of their cases due to the privacy and safety of the children. We have created a national database and as an organization we can refer the state agencies to particular families within the state, however, a family may not contact the state directly. The process must be initiated in the state you reside in. The entire process may take anywhere from 4-6 months to complete. Once you are licensed, you will begin receiving calls about eligible children in need of homes. We currently have 3 licensed families in NJ that we are working with in regards to the above case. JAK for your efforts. Please feel free to complete the following questionnaire so we contact you for future cases and please consider initiating the licensing process. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3WG8WWH

  11. I received a call from a particular agency (Sept.) about seeking out A Muslim home to take two children. I was very excited without heistation agree to accept the addition to my home. One person explain this is not temporary situation possibility children would go up for adoption. I followed up with agency next day to iron out all the details time/date etc.Another staff member stated," this is temporary only vacation placement and children will return non Muslim home...I am soooo confused.....
